3.2. Var catchment

    The Var is the main catchment of the Alpes Maritimes. It contains 5 sub catchments (Estéron, Vésubie, Tinée, Upper Var and Lower Var) and count 125 km of river.

Its area is around 2800 km². Due to this situation in mountainous area, the slopes are quite hight (they can overcome 20% locally).

The main precipitation is 815 mm/year, concentrated in a short period of 65 - 80 days. The main rising in autumn (strong) and spring (weak, just due to the ice melting). The flow is about 50 m3/s.
