1994 flood event

In November 1994 the upper catchment of the Var was badly affected by flash flooding. The flooding was caused by very intense rainfall that lasted three days, combined with a heavily saturated river basin due to a wetter than average summer. The flooding caused catchment-wide damage: to infrastructure, transport networks, weirs and flood protection structures. The flood peak discharge reached approximately 3770m3 and the flooding lasted at least two weeks (Anthony, 2007). Additional flood events have occurred within this catchment, including the November, 2011 flash flood event.
